Here are some results showing noise reduction of raytraced sources. It’s an improved revision of the experiments we tried previously... The first movie is basically a split showing the original and the noise reduced result. It works best to play it full screen, at low quality (which should disable any post filtering). Unfortunately, the compression used to make this playable over the internet tends to minimize the noise, so you have to look very closely.
Note: these are larger than most of our downloads because the compression is mild.
This next movie is a crop from the first, prior to compression. It has had a Laplacian filter applied and normalized. It shows the noise much more clearly.
Finally, the same clips run through a small composite which sets the final “look”.
We employed a similar technique with a different subject matter. This can play full screen nicely.

man, this is great!
you don’t tell me which plugin you’ve used to blend the de:noise and awake? was it “median in time”?
thanks in advance

Median In Time works for things that aren’t moving in screenspace, but De:Noise works for things that do move. As for blending, that’s done in the comp based on what areas need the appropriate levels of noise reduction.
